How Social, Economic, Cultural, and Political Problems Impacted Russia
In areas where serfs were not sold with the land, such as Russia, where there was a great deal of frontier to be settled, the annual rate for natural increase, not counting immigration, might well have exceeded 1 percent. Russian serfs (slave/peasant type workers under the feudal system) and serf families were regularly sold with the land that was sold.
