636-645, Impact on Russia

A factor that forced economic changes all over Europe and specifically in Russia was the population boom. After the Black Death was over, people survived longer, and more babies were being born in Russia, as well as the rest of Europe. In an absolutist country such as Russia, improvements in the water supply and sewage were made. Because of this, diseases were not spread as easily, and there was better public health. Rural industry also became an important part of economy, and the putting out system helped to lessen unemployment rates and provide cheap goods. In Russia, the putting out system contributed to increases in the population, and now about 50 to 100 people lived per square mile.
